Nicki Minaj Announces TV Series Based on Her Life

Great news for all Nicki Minaj fans. She will both executive produce and appear in a new ABC Family comedy sitcom. Written by Kate Angelo ( Sex Tape), the yet-to-be-titled series will be based on her childhood growing up in Queens, New York. The show will chronicling her life in an immigrant family from Trinidad and her incredible conquest to stardom.
This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Kate Angelo and Aaron Kaplan are also listed as executive producer, along with Stella Bulochnikov and Brian Sher ( Boss), as well as Onika’s manager Gee Roberson.
Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
The series will screen sometime next year as the pilot will be filmed this winter in Queens. Nicki took to Instagram to confirm the news and announce she is “launching a nation wide search to find #YoungNicki.”

As we all know, Minaj is not a stranger to acting as she has studied the craft at LaGuardia High School. Plus, she has voiced a character in the 3D animated film Ice Ace: Continental Drift and appeared in 2014’s The Other Woman. Recently, she nabbed her first starring movie role in Barbershop 3, alongside Ice Cube and Queen Latifah.
