The annual anniversary of the death of Afrobeat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, tagged Felabration, is about to kick-off.
The week-long event will feature the best of entertainers drawn from
across Africa including Falz, Olamide, Iyanya, Tekno, Waje, Burna Boy, Kiss Daniel, and many more are billed to perform.
This year’s event series, according to the organisers, will hold from
October 12 to 18, 2015. An annual event, Felabration is a celebration
of the life and times of the Afrobeat icon. It chronicles his ideals and everything he lived for.
Felabration
is the brainchild of Fela’s eldest child, Yeni Kuti, fondly referred to
as YK. She conceived the concept in 2008, and since then, the event
holds during the week of Fela’s birthday.
The
Afrobeat Musical Festival, which takes the form of a carnival, consists
of a series of events, which include photo exhibitions, symposia,
musical performances and street parades. It holds at the New Afrika
Shrine in Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos State.
