T.I. Leaves Columbia Records, Works with Dr. Dre on “The Dime Trap” Album

T.I. is making some major moves. After changing back his artistic name to Tip and  announcing he is no longer working with Iggy Azalea, who surprisingly claimed she is still signed to Grand Hustle, the rapper cut his ties with Columbia Records.

Catching up with HDD, Tip, whose current EP Da’ Nic saw the light of day independently through distribution from Empire Music, explained the flagship recording label was his home only for his last album Paperwork.
Having just exited my deal at Columbia, I was a rogue artist, busting creativity, just waiting to put music in the marketplace, so while I’m sorting out my next situation, I’m blessed enough to be able to control my destiny and put music out as quickly as I want to, and was able to release a TIP album, which I had wanted to do for a long time.”
T.I.’s tenth studio album The Dime Trap is coming out soon. His label situation is yet to be clarified. What we know though, is he recently hit the studio with Dr. Dre for a few sessions. He detailed the experience in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Dre’s the homie, to be honest with you. I’ve never seen somebody so meticulous about music before. The only thing that I can say was a similar experience was when me and Eminem did those songs together. The way Em is about a verse, that’s how Dre is about production. It’s a very tedious, meticulous, nerve-wracking process. But the outcome is immeasurable. You just can’t describe the difference in the magnitude of production that goes from what we’re used to doing and what he’s used to doing.”
